Annual Search Dog Training
Kennel and the Arkansas Alliance of Bloodhound Search Specialists
(AABSS) is excited to announce that the 14th Annual Search Dog Training
Weekend will be held in Pope County, Arkansas the weekend of May 16-19,
2013. This weekend will consist of only trailing dogs again this
year. We will be scheduling a weekend for the other disciplines
of area search and cadaver work , but we have not confirmed those dates
registration will be May 8, 2013.
The weekend will consist of
intense field work each day and group discussions each evening.
Discussion topics will include areas such as: scent theory, scent
article collection & preservation, case law, canine first aid and
search scene safety, working with flankers / ground teams, etc.
Handlers will be expected to work together in the
field to address any areas of concern a particular team might want to
address during the course of the weekend. There will not be
formal instructors -- it will strictly be an opportunity for handlers
to work together to work as many problems as they wish throughout the
weekend with plenty of people to setup in-depth scenarios and to
brainstorm with other handlers to address specific problem areas a
particular team might be experiencing. However, we will have
group leaders to help ensure everyone gets to correct locations and to
setup specific problems teams within the group expressed they would
like to work on, along with having many experienced handlers in
attendance. We also hope to sit up some complete scenarios for
handlers that would like the opportunity to work through a problem from
call-out to locating and extracting the victim.
The base for the weekend will be held at Old Post Road Park,
Russellville, Pope County, Arkansas.
There is no cost for handlers attending the weekend, but a completed
registration form is required prior to the weekend to ensure adequate
support personnel is available to assist each team with their goals for
the weekend. Each participant will be responsible for the cost
of their own lodging and meals this year. We will have an
auction one evening to help cover the costs associated with the weekend
and will be asking everyone to bring an item to donate for the auction.
We will also have t-shirts for sale throughout the weekend.
Another new item this year -- we will have Dearil and Donna from Images by Dearil
joining us for the weekend. They will be taking photos
throughout the weekend which will be available for purchase. More
details will be posted at a later date.
We are still working on finalizing a few details for the year's weekend
and hope to have everything finalized by the end of March, 2013.
If you are on Facebook, we are also posting and updating
information as it is finalized on the Arkansas Alliance of Bloodhound
Search Specialists page.
Proof of vaccinations and/or titers for each K-9 will be required and
will need to be presented at check-in. Please remember if
traveling from out of state, Arkansas law required a health certificate
along with proof of current vaccinations / titers for each K-9.
